Chau Lai

BA in Chinese Medicine, Licensed Acupuncturist, Chinese Medicine Practitioner

Chau Lai Wong is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine Practitioner with nearly two decades of clinical experience in integrative rehabilitation and whole-person care. Her work brings together the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), including Five Element assessment and pattern differentiation, with modern biomedical understanding to support recovery, resilience and long-term wellbeing.

At Synthesis Clinic, Chau Lai works as part of the multidisciplinary team, providing acupuncture and Chinese medicine support at our Reading practice, working alongside standard medical care. She collaborates closely with other practitioners to ensure treatments are aligned with each patient’s wider care plan, particularly for those undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment.

Chau Lai supports patients with a broad range of concerns, including musculoskeletal pain, neurological conditions, cancer-related symptoms and treatment side effects, and women’s health across all life stages. Her approach is gentle, thorough and highly individualised, drawing on acupuncture alongside cupping, Gua Sha, moxibustion and personalised herbal strategies where appropriate.

Her training spans both traditional and evidence-based clinical frameworks. She holds a First Class Honours Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Medicine from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with clinical training in Hong Kong and mainland China. She also completed an MPhil in Acupuncture for Autism at the University of Hong Kong, an MSc in Musculoskeletal Medicine and Rehabilitation, and an MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care at the University of Oxford. Chau Lai is a member of the British Acupuncture Council.

Before relocating to the UK, Chau Lai spent over 16 years working in a busy multidisciplinary rehabilitation clinic in Hong Kong, collaborating closely with GPs, surgeons, physiotherapists and other allied health professionals. She is known for her calm, compassionate approach and her commitment to helping patients feel supported, understood and actively involved in their healing journey.
