Cancer Risk Reduction and Survivorship and Carer Support Services at Synthesis Clinic

Whole-person care for life beyond cancer treatment, for survivors, previvors and the people who care for them

We use both Precision Health (including Functional Medicine) and Lifestyle Medicine models at our practice, providing truly personalised healthcare plans based on root causes of illness instead of the ‘sticky plaster’ symptom-based approach. We use a truly integrated approach where members of our multidisciplinary team meet regularly to discuss their approach to each individual and to ensure everybody in the team is united behind you.

Our key areas of focus are:

1) Cancer survivorship services, including a whole person health menopause and cancer service

2) Family and carer whole person wellbeing support service - our carer support team offers support for caregivers of anyone impacted by cancer, including nutrition, health coaching, psychological support and herbal medicine. For men’s health carer support options we offer consultations with Dr Raj Joshi.

3) Previvorship support - risk reduction support for women with a high risk of cancer (primary prevention), based on family history of cancer, genetics (BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2, CHEK2, Lynch syndrome etc) or other high risk medical history (such as autoimmune thyroiditis,PCOS, endometriosis, endometrial hyperplasia and persistent high risk HPV and Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia or CIN as some examples)

About this service

Specialist post-treatment integrative care: the support the system stops giving.

Synthesis Clinic's Survivorship & Carer Support service exists for the chapter that begins when active cancer treatment ends, and the years that follow. Our doctor-led multidisciplinary team supports women and men living beyond a cancer diagnosis, those at high genetic risk, and the partners, parents and adult children caring for someone with cancer. We work alongside your NHS or private oncology team (never as a replacement), combining medical expertise with nutrition, psychological support, lifestyle medicine, movement and integrative therapies to address the symptoms, anxieties and identity shifts that conventional follow-up rarely has time for.

Whether you are managing menopause after breast cancer, navigating tamoxifen side effects, working through fear of recurrence, or holding a household together while someone you love is unwell, this service is built for you.

What conditions can we help with at Synthesis Clinic?

Please note that Synthesis Clinic is not a specialist eating disorder clinic, and we are not able to take on patients with an active eating disorder. We are only able to support individuals who are in stable long-term remission from a past eating disorder. Please note that some general nutrition education handouts provided may include foods to include and foods to limit, so if this may be triggering in any way, finding specialist support outside our practice would be best.

How Does Your Approach Work?

  1. Thorough clinical assessment through detailed intake forms and  in-depth initial consultation

    • Additional testing may be needed but we strongly believe in clinical history as the foundation for first steps.

  2. Co-creating a personalised plan to address your health goals, aimed at tackling the root causes of your symptoms.

    • This may involve a single specialty at the clinic, such as seeing a doctor, medical herbalist or health coach, or incorporate a team approach, tailored to your unique situation with aligned input from several professionals to support you to feel better faster.

  3. Regular review and reassessment, dynamically adjusting your care plan to change with you as your needs evolve.

  4. Discharge from the clinic when the desired improvement has been achieved, providing you with a health maintenance plan and individual SOS resources to help you keep on track.

Please contact Mikayla, our Cancer Survivorship and Carer Support Clinic Coordinator, to discuss the programmes and book in.

Please contact Mikayla Bargh, our Clinic Coordinator, for further information about any of our cancer survivorship and carer support services or if you are unsure what will work best for your individual situation.
